Position Summary:
The OPCOE Peer Advisor (PA) plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement. This position involves assisting with the implementation and support of various OPCOE programs. The PA provides direct support to one or more of these programs, which include the Bridge Program, Pre-Collegiate Development Programs, and other Outreach Programs, while also contributing to general office operations and initiatives that span multiple programs. Depending on the assigned program, responsibilities may include peer mentoring and supporting Saturday academies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the success of OPCOE programs by assisting with planning, logistics, and implementation of events, workshops, and student experiences. Provide flexible support across multiple initiatives as needed.
  • Develop, promote, and execute Academies both on and off campus; facilitate Academies in English and Spanish.
  • Provide professional and welcoming customer service to students, families, and visitors. Respond to phone calls and emails, and direct inquiries to appropriate staff members.
  • Assist with general office tasks and maintain organized common areas. Support data entry and the collection of student and program information.
  • Help create and update flyers, handouts, and other materials to support program outreach and engagement.
  • Provide supervision and support to participants program activities. Lead or assist with workshops on topics such as academics, leadership, or community involvement, as needed.
  • Serve as liaisons between OPCOE and the students, parents/guardians, and support people.

Job Duties (with percentage of time spent):
1. Program Support (70%)

  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of program activities, including campus visits, workshops, residential experiences, organizing student panels, leading workshops, facilitating discussions with first-generation middle school and high school students, Ìýand supporting special events.
  • Support communication with students, families, and community partners through email, phone, and in-person interactions.
  • Help prepare materials, supplies, and logistics for program sessions.
  • Track attendance, collect feedback, and assist with data entry and reporting.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for program participants.

2. General Office Support (20%)

  • Provide front desk coverage, greet visitors, and respond to general inquiries.
  • Assist with scheduling, filing, and maintaining organized records and supplies.
  • Support internal communication and documentation efforts, including meeting notes and calendar updates.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative office culture.

3. Other Duties Assigned (10%)

  • Provide support to other OPCOE programs and events as needed.
  • Assist with special projects, outreach efforts, or university-wide initiatives.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a work-study award for AY 25/26 and summer 2026.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 5 hours per week and weekends.
  • Be a current ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ student enrolled full time in the 2025-2026 academic year
  • Demonstrate experience with first-generation, diverse students, families, and communities.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Experience in youth development, pre-college programming, or K–12 education.
  • Strong curriculum development and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to manage long-term projects and build relationships with students and families.
  • Deep understanding of first-generation student experiences and college access barriers.
  • Verbal and/or written communication in Spanish or VietnameseÌý

Start Date: September 1st, 2025
Compensation: $16-23 per hour, and work study is required. Compensation is based on skills, experience, and work-study award.

Benefits: All undergraduate and graduate student positions are hired as student hourly and are not eligible for tuition remission. Work study is used, if awarded and available, but not required for hire. Benefits are limited, but include possible student retirement, and sick leave that accrues at a rate of 0.034 sick hours per every 1 hour worked. Additional information can be found on the .
