Ongoing Projects

Language Learning Environments of Bilingual Children

We study how everyday interactions—such as conversations between parents and children at home or between teachers and students in the classroom—shape bilingual children’s language development. By observing how children use their two languages in natural settings, we seek to understand how family, school, and community environments influence their learning.

Language Development in Bilingual Children

This project follows bilingual children as they grow, focusing on how their two languages influence one another over time. We aim to understand what typical bilingual development looks like so that educators and clinicians can better distinguish between language differences and language disorders.

Word Learning in Bilinguals

We explore how bilingual children learn new words across different contexts, such as home and school. Our goal is to understand how experiences in both languages contribute to word learning and to apply these insights to dynamic assessment and intervention practices that better support bilingual learners.

Vocabulary Learning and Intervention in Bilingual Children

We study how bilingual children, including those with developmental language disorder (DLD), learn and organize words in their two languages. By tracking how vocabulary grows across home and school settings, we aim to improve early identification of language difficulties and design more effective ways to support children’s learning. In collaboration with Dr. Eliana Colunga at the ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ, we also develop personalized, data-informed vocabulary programs for bilingual preschoolers, helping teachers tailor instruction to each child’s unique language profile.
