English Proficiency Requirements

All students need strong English language skills to succeed in ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s rigorous academic environment, and international applicants must provide evidence of English proficiency before enrolling. 

  • You may satisfy English proficiency requirements before or after being reviewed for admission; however, English proficiency scores must be on file for scholarship consideration.
  • If you wish to be reviewed for first-year student scholarships, submit proof of English proficiency with your application for admission and no later than the regular decision deadline.
  • If you apply for admission without English language scores and are admitted to ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ, you must submit evidence of English proficiency or enroll in the Pathway to CU Program before you can confirm your place in the incoming class.
  • ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ reserves the right to require proof of English proficiency, or an alternative means of demonstrating English proficiency, from any applicant.

  • Exams must have been completed within two calendar years of your start date at ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ. 
  • English language learner classes do not count towards the number of years needed to demonstrate proficiency.
  • You must have completed your studies within two calendar years of your start date at ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ.
  • Medium of instruction letters alone do not satisfy English proficiency requirements. Your studies must have been completed in one of the qualifying countries listed below. 
  • English language learner classes do not count towards the number of credits needed to demonstrate proficiency.
  • You must have completed your studies within two calendar years of your start date at ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ.

Conditional Admission

¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ offers conditional admission to international students who meet the academic requirements for admission but need to improve their English language skills before starting a degree program. Students granted conditional admission are allowed to start their degree program after they have met the requirement for English proficiency.

You may pursue conditional admission by applying to ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ without submitting English proficiency scores and then registering for the Pathway to CU Program.
