Extended-range violinist, singer and composer Enion Pelta-Tiller is a musical free spirit who moves fluently and fluidly through jazz, bluegrass, Brazilian music and anything else she can get her hands on. Long known as one of the creative forces behind celebrated progressive folk group Taarka, with whom she has released eight studio albums, she is also in demand as an improvising fiddler by groups at the forefront of the national bluegrass and jazz scenes.
Pelta-Tiller is also recognized for her solo ventures that bring together her love of folk music and jazz in intriguing combinations. Music has taken her all over the globe—from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and China Television Station Studios in Shenzhen, China to Tiny Desk in Washington, D.C. and Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado, to perform with artists as diverse as Linda Ronstadt, Sean Jones and John Cowan.
Pelta-Tiller is highly sought after as an educator, having been invited to teach at fiddle camps and music schools around the world including Mark O’Connor’s Strings Conference and the Escola de Musica Folk e Tradicional in Vigo, Spain, as well as closer to home at the University of Colorado in Boulder and in Denver.
Pelta-Tiller trained classically at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, and earned a BA from Johns Hopkins University and an MM from the ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ. Her mentorship with fiddler Darol Anger and formative years spent playing fiddle tunes and Django jazz with her guitarist father, in addition to her classical studies, set the stage for a career that continually pushes the boundaries of genre.
