Federal courts have struggled to apply existing Fourth Amendment doctrine to such searches, and in the meanwhile, a three-step procedure developed by Google鈥攃urrently the main purveyor of location data to law enforcement鈥攈as been doing most of the work that the law should be doing in channeling how law enforcement agencies conduct searches of geolocation databases.
