Sandra Ristovska, associate professor in media studies at the College of Communication, Media, Design and Information and an affiliate associate professor at Colorado Law, is the founding director of the Visual Evidence Lab. Informed by her experiences as a documentary filmmaker, her researchÌýexamines how, under what circumstances, and to what ends visual technologies shape the pursuit of justice and human rights in institutional and legal contexts.

A faculty fellow at the Institute of Behavioral Science, Ristovska’s publications include the award-winning monograph,ÌýSeeing Human Rights: Video Activism as a Proxy Profession, a co-edited book,ÌýVisual Imagery and Human Rights Practice, and more than two dozen journal articles and book chapters.ÌýRistovska’s research has been funded through grants like the Mellon/ACLS Scholars and Society Fellowship, ACLS Sustaining Community Connections Grant, and a residential fellowship at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. She was a research fellow at the Scientific Evidence Committee of the American Bar Association’s Science and Technology Law Section.Ìý

Prior to joining ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ in 2017, Ristovska was the George Gerbner Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication. She has held visiting fellowships with the Information Society Project at Yale Law School—where she served as an advisor to the Visual Law Project—the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University and the Center for Media, Data and Society at Central European University.
